{renovate} the depths of indecision

Sometimes I'm quick to make decisions and know precisely what I want. Other times, it takes me months and I second guess everything. The latter usually revolves around fabric and/or other textiles. It just so happens that I'm trying to choose a couple different fabrics right now. And a couple rugs. I need to choose fabric for over the kitchen sink. I also need to choose fabric for the living room ottoman and I need a rug for in front of the kitchen sink. Oh and possibly a rug under the table in the nook. Seriously, it's a lot! It makes my head spin. I know I want to have some fun with the fabric over the sink, so I'm trying to choose that fabric first and then base my other choices off it.

I know you're all curious, so here, my friends, is what indecision looks like:

I. CAN'T. CHOOSE. First world problems, right? I just want to pick one so I can move on with my life, but none are right. At the beginning of the kitchen remodel, I posted that I wanted to updated the color scheme be blue and green - instead of just blue. This still holds true. More recently, I posted a variety of fabrics, trying to narrow things down. The one thing I have decided is that I want a floral, because there are so many straight lines in the room - the cabinets, the tile, the painted lines on the floor. (My awesome husband pointed that one out ;) I need to both mix it up and soften it up. The problem here, though, is that a lot of florals read too stuffy.

The fabric below (left) is actually the closest to what I'm looking for. Chris loves this one. But I think it's maybe too turquoise? Although, the pattern is pretty awesome.

During High Point Market, I was drooling over browsing the #hpmkt hashtag in instagram and came across this fabric:

PERFECT. Do any of you know what this is? I asked the person who posted, but haven't heard back. I LOVE it. It's bright and fun, yet not too busy or precious or stuffy. If any of you know, or have a guess, let me know! :)

Friends, what do you second guess yourself about? Are you in the middle of a decorating dilemma right now?

  1. It is a good idea to soften the straight lines in the kitchen with something a little feminine and I do love the colors in the floral; I do not think there is too much turquoise. I have to repaint my kitchen - green to possibly grey - and am tossing around various shades...will post some time.

  2. I'm the same with fabric. I feel like a need to see everything out there (which is impossible) before I can make a decision, and I change my mind constantly. It's a sickness really.

I like all the fabric choices you have. Unfortunately I don't know who makes the fabric you love. Someone in blogland will though.

  3. That Dwell fabric is a favorite of mine - I love it!! And unfortunately I don't know the other fabric shown on those chairs. You should see the stacks of memos I have going for the loveseat I'm having reupholstered. I think I've decided that I'm going to keep it fairly classic and do a stripe so I've narrowed down my choices a little bit.

  5. Fabric is also the decision I find the most difficult. It seems like I can decide on it for someone else's house, just not my own. I think it has to do with the fact that I tire of decor easily, so I'm always afraid to make the wrong choice.
I do like the Dwell fabric a lot, I think it would be lovely (and not stuffy at all!).

  6. For a minute I thought maybe that was a Designer's Guild fabric, but I wasn't lucky enough to find it. They do have some nice florals... I like the idea of not using a geometric, but don't feel married to a floral... something "organic" would really work well in your kitchen. I do like the RA you have selected. Have you tried Duralee? they have great prints.... Don't pull the trigger until you find something you love!

  7. Hi! New follower, I found your blog through Houzz and find it so inspiring! I love all the colors in the fabrics you are looking at, but totally understand trying to find the "right one". When you know you just know. Just wondering what the fabric is in the top left corner of your first pic? I love it! Thanks!

  8. Hey Jenn! Oh gosh, the choosing of fabrics is always so tough for me, because I love so many of them.
I would ask Jeannine at Small & Chic in Cville about that last fabric. She has a great eye for it and also a great knowledge of designer fabrics, it seems. Have you tried googling for blog posts about the High Point Market maybe?

In your photo of all the fabrics I love the left half of them, especially the watercolor-y ones.

  10. This is going to sound crazy because I used to spend my entire work day in a design studio helping people pick out and coordinate fabrics, but my biggest problem for my own space is always fabrics. There are so many I love, then I can't decide, can't pull a grouping together that I like. So hard. You are not alone, but the swatches you have here are gorgeous. I find the less I think about it the better. If in find something I like I buy it and work it in. Not idea, but often successful.
