I'm having a hard time kick-starting this year. Usually I come off the holidays with a list and a ton of energy to just get things done. Not this year. I was inspired to create a list of home goals from a couple of my bloggy friends. I have my resolutions, but I think I need concrete tasks for the house. Tasks that will focus me and help me start planning our bigger projects.
My biggest obstacle is that the projects on our list are HUGE. Like, gutting rooms HUGE. So they're a little intimidating. But if I've learned nothing from this blog, it's that if you take projects one step at a time they become both manageable, and finished.
2012 Home Goals
Kitchen
- Install new counter top
- Tear up linoleum (BOTH layers) and refinish hardwoods
- Build a kitchen island
- Install a dishwasher
Back Porch
- Refinish chairs
- Paint floor
Bathroom: gut.
- Install new non-wood window
- Tear out everything
- Tile floor
- Tile shower
- Paint
Craft room
- Find a suitable organizing system
- Finish decorating
Are we crazy for thinking that we can tackle a kitchen AND a bathroom in one year? Maybe. Probably. So we'll see how that goes. We need to decide which is more important (bathroom) and which will be easier/less intrusive to our life (kitchen). Sigh.
What's the #1 thing you like to accomplish in your home this year?
I'm linking up to Nester's 2012 Home Goals party.

ReplyDeleteYou have some great projects on your list! I look forward to seeing them all come together :)

It does help to break them up into smaller projects! BTW, I am LOVING those light fixtures in your dining room!
ReplyDeletelove love love those light fixtures on your porch!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun 2012 is in store! I am super pumped to see what you guys do with the kitchen and bathroom...whichever you choose:).
ReplyDeleteHey Jen, for your craft room organization, you might want to check out the Elfa systems at The Container Store. They are on sale 30% off for the few few months of the year.
ReplyDeleteContainer Store has designers that will guide & advise and helped me make my additional plan a thousand times better that I originally conceived. They will design everything and pull together everything you need. I am still loving what we did last year for my work space and love that it was super easy to install and I can easily transition it anywhere if we move.
Your projects sound fun and inspiring. Good luck with everything.
Wait, I don't remember you doing a back porch reveal with those awesome pendants from West Elm (at least I think they're from West Elm). Did you? It looks awesome! My number 1 goal is to fix up the small things in order to get our house ready to sell.
ReplyDeleteHey, Jenn! So glad you decided to make a list! Yikes, I guess all your things are kinda big...most of mine are just small, silly things that I still can't even manage to get done! Does all this stuff really need to get done this year? Bathrooms scare me so badly...I know nothing about them...and I didn't even put our upstairs bathroom on the list - it totally needs to be redone. Do you know where you are going with the redos yet in terms of inspiration/materials or are you still sorting all that out? Would love to hear more about how you are going to organize your craft room, I am desperate need of that too. Is that your back porch with the awesome lights and painted cabinet? Wow, love it!
ReplyDeleteLove that backporch! The light fixtures, the table, the cabinet. Looks great just how it is, but looking forward to seeing your changes.
ReplyDeleteI really like the planking used in the table coupled with the wire chairs. Thank you for the design idea.
