{renovate} it's all in the details

Friends, it occurred to me this weekend that I am terrible with updating you guys about small changes we make around the house. Somehow a new welcome mat just doesn't seem to warrant an entire post. BUT, we have made a couple small updates around the house that I thought you'd like to see. And I just have to apologize about the photos - for the last few days, even when it's daylight, it isn't actually light out. It's that pesky rain thing that comes with January in Oregon :).

Entry rugs.

In the midst of the kitchen remodel chaos we somehow lost both our back and front entry rugs. I have no idea. So the front door has a new lovely rug (that was on SUPER sale) at West Elm. I can't even remember what our last rug looked like (a true sign your remodel is taking too long), but I really love how BOLD this one is - especially when paired with our navy front door

The back door has a fun new graphic rug from Target. I do remember the last one here - it was very beige. I am really liking that this one is dark and moody. Sort of like the January we're having. Which makes me wonder if I'll still feel like that once the weather's nicer? :)

Fruit bowl?

Possibly. I've talked before about Portland's Seek the Unique - we held our blogger event there last spring - and this lovely was the result of a quick stop this weekend.

Isn't it gorgeous? I don't know how long it will stay a fruit bowl (it's huge, if you can't tell by the amount of fruit in there), but I know that it will easily travel around the entire house and be amazing. That texture! Kills me!

Sheets.

I've wanted striped sheets since the minute we bought our duvet cover - 4 years ago! I finally bought these from West Elm, which I'd been eyeing for more than a year (!), when I stopped by there a couple weeks ago. I LOVE them. And this photo reminds me - where do you fall on the spectrum of bed making? I fall firmly on the "what's the point, you're just going to get back in it later" side. I only make my bed for you guys, really :)

I think what I love most about these updates is that each is big and bold in its own way. All are supporting characters in the grand scheme of things, but are still making a fun and unique statement. And I think because of that, they add so much to our home.

Friends, I love to know - what small changes have you made around your house lately?

  1. LOVE that bowl. I'm keeping my eye out for a dough bowl...I'd totally use it too to make dough!

  2. I'm loving those rugs, especially the one at the back door! Of course, in my house, dark beautiful rug = Diesl and Monkey hair collector. sigh. I am a bed maker, every day, every morning, in fact! I cannot STAND to have not-smooth sheets...they're so uncomfortable! As for my new additions...canvas prints from my trip to Spain. I need to find them a home!

  3. I am a make the bed first thing in the morning gal. I feel less chaos if that big bed looks tidy and pulled together. I love that everyone has such varying feelings on bed making. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how much I care if our 6-year-old makes her bed before school every day. Strangely, now that I think about it, I don't remember what we did about bed making at home when I was growing up. How can I not remember that? Anyway, love your rugs, things are looking so great at your house. Love the sheets, I have been trying to decide on new sheets & duvet cover for a couple of years now and can't make a decision.

  5. Oh gosh, we never make the bed!! I'm with you, what's the point?! I have wanted new bedding (especially throw pillows) for awhile now, but I'm kinda like, why bother, I never make it anyways!!! The striped sheets look great, love the grey with the orange.

Love the new rugs! Just scored a 5 x 8 for the new nursery from the West Elm rug sale:)

  7. I am firmly on the make my bed every day side. Although that hasn't been happening lately for several reasons... namely the size of my belly, that my nightstands are too large and crammed right next to the bed making it difficult to get all the linens between them and the bed, and John's usually either in bed or recently vacated it when it's time for me to leave for work. It's one of those compromises they warn you about when you get married.

  8. That bowl is gorgeous, Jenn! I'd be trying it in every spot in my house! Pretty striped sheets, too! Bed maker here, feels like clutter without it made. :)

  9. Love all your new additions- especially that fruit bowl! I have to agree with you on the bed making! I love how the bed looks when it is made but I don't want to get out of it those few extra minutes early to give myself time to make it! That's awful I know!

  11. We all know design is in the details, so I looooove detail posts. And I'm SO with you...I never make the bed. Like EVER. Only when guests come over, and then I have to remember were all my "fancy" pillows are:).

  12. Your post made me realize that I am guilty of not sharing the little details as well. I think it's because I don't like to show things "half-finished". But we all know, the good stuff is in the details. You've motivated me to post some detail shots of my own - thanks :) Oh, and that gnarled wood bowl is SO good - love it! The striped sheets are super fun too - I must admit though, I'm an OCD bed-maker. I have even been known to make the bed around both the dog and my husband...

  13. So funny! I also bought this really cute little rug but haven't blogged it because it's just a rug, but it makes me smile all the time! I love your new rugs. And I never ever ever make my bed. :)

  14. I love everything! I've been debating that same Target rug, just bigger, for our master bedroom! And those sheets, you know I love those sheets!!!

I bought a big comfy chair for our master probably 6 months ago...if finally got cleaned and made it's way to our room tonight! Now if I could just find the right fabric to cover the pads...a sheet will do for now!
