{renovate} kitchen REVEAL!

Friends, today is the day. I'm declaring the kitchen remodel done! As I mentioned in my last update post, there are still a few things left to do. But nothing on the list effects either using or looking at the kitchen, so I'll just update you when we get to them :).

There are a couple things I need to mention before I get to a slew of before and after photos. The first is, we've been working on this kitchen since last memorial day. Just over 9 months. And I am so grateful that you guys were so patient and supportive and encouraging through the entire process. Thank you for understanding that we have jobs and we take vacations and we have other things that take up our time. I so appreciate you for still showing up and loving on our remodel!

Second, I really need to publicly thank my awesome rock-star husband. Chris gave up so much in the last 9 months to get this project done and I know I don't thank him enough. Thanks, love! :) Most of you probably know that Chris bought this house way before he ever met me, and I just adore that he never bats at eye at my crazy schemes and I absolutely love that through each project, this house has really becomes "ours." Okay, end sap.

So, let's look at some photos! The befores are all from my original post detailing why on earth we were gutting the kitchen, instead of just updating :).

Taking down the wall between the living room and kitchen was definitely a game changer.

As is the island!

I was nervous about removing the cute original built in, but I so love having a wall mounted microwave/oven now. And, it saves us a lot of cabinet space.

And, here are a few photos from the nook:

Below are some more photos of the space, for your viewing pleasure. I took a ton over the weekend! I'll be back Wednesday with sources for everything. Friends, thank you again for following along through this huge process! :)

I'm sure it's obvious, but wow am I glad we're done!! :)

  3. It looks great, Jenn! The layout seems much more efficient - these old kitchens with too many doorways just become awkward. You came up with a nice solution. Did you need to get a permit to take down the wall? I love that you had a few of the tiles taped onto the wall way back before you started demo :) It shows you really had a plan and a vision for what the space would become.

    1. Thank you! You know this as well as anyone - 4 doors in one room is horrible to work around! We did not get a permit for the wall. We were advised both ways, but decided not to - something about how the entire wall didn't actually come down, just a portion? My husband knows the details. And the tile? So funny - I was trying to convince Chris it was the BEST tile :).

  7. Girlfriend (and Chris), Kudos, high fives, hugs...it looks fantastic. Look at all of the natural light you've got flooding in now. You should be very proud. It's beautiful - enjoy it. And if I'm ever out in Portland I want a personal tour. Oh, and I can't get enough of those pendants over the island.

  16. Congratulations, Jenn (and Chris)!!! It is so nice to see it all come together after so much hard work (I can't imagine!)! It's gorgeous. My favorite parts are the pendant lights, the backslash tile, the copper and the painted floors:) And the wall you took down! It must be so nice to spend time in there together, you deserve it:)

  18. Nine months! You and Chris just had a kitchen! Congrats again!

Not sure if this is too personal, but would you be willing to share some of the costs of the kitchen? I know you guys did most of the work yourself, so I assume that saved a lot of money. But what were your big expenses? Would you do anything different? Any suggestions for future kitchen remodelers? :)

  20. Jenn, your kitchen is AMAZING!! I'm so excited for you guys that you are finished and are ready to enjoy the space. I can't get over what a difference it has made from your "before" pictures. There's so many great details here, but I think my favorite is that subway tile. Very on trend, but so timeless with the unique shape.

Congrats, again! You guys deserve to kick up your feet and savor all that hard work. Cheers!
