Friends, today I need your help.
See, last week I finally pulled out my Christmas music. I really can't bear it until December 1, or a few days after even. I worked at Starbucks for a few years and holiday music began in November. It was pure torture. By the time Christmas actually arrives I am so sick of the music. And that's just sad.
I have a favorite holiday song (of course!). It's God Rest Year Merry Gentlemen, performed by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan. Have you heard it?
I LOVE this version of the song. I realized that this song, plus a couple others, make up the entire 5-6 Christmas songs that I can listen to on repeat. And this is where YOU come in!
I need Christmas music suggestions. We're hosting our first ever holiday party on Saturday (yikes!), and I need to put together a festive, cheery, upbeat holiday play list.
So, dish. I know you all have one :). What is your absolute favorite, play on repeat every year, Christmas song.
My absolute favorite is What Child is This? Not upbeat but still awesome.
ReplyDeleteOther favorites:
Bing Crosby's Mele Kalikimaka
Dean Martin's Baby It's Cold Outside
Wham!'s Last Christmas
Nsync's (don't hate) Kiss Me At Midnight
Nsync has Christmas song! You just made my day! :)
ReplyDeleteOh friend. They have an entire album. Also their Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays is quite awesome.
ReplyDeleteI also forgot Rockin Around the Christmas Tree and White Christmas by The Drifters from Home Alone.
I know it's awful, but I worked in retail the last three Christmases and the Disney Christmas CD is really great. (I'll shamelessly admit that it's one of my faves.) I wouldn't recommend listening to it on repeat, but it is a fun CD if you are looking for upbeat songs to dance to. ;)
ReplyDeleteMariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas is an all time fav. I also love the chipmunk song, but not everyone enjoys chipmunks caroling, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Angela. Mariah's AIWFC. :) I also love the Choir of the Church of the Advent (in boston) but they're not hip - they're classical and old-school and peaceful sounding. The album is called Duo Seraphim.
ReplyDeleteBaby it's cold outside... the version from ELF. I don't know.. i'm just ridiculously obsessed with the song and that movie! <3

You'll probably laugh but I like Boney M and Nana Mouskouri!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the party! :)
ReplyDeleteI love all I want for Christmas is you, feliz navidad, and all the classics like silent night and come all ye faithful :)
Yay! I LOVE that version of that song!! I am going to have to think on favorite Xmas tunes... Two songs that are not technically Christmas but that I love this time of year are All You Need is Love (Beatles) and God Only Knows (Beach Boys), but that's probably just because they were in the movie Love Actually. Probably not much help, but hey, I tried. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and giving your stamp of approval on our new bar stools! Happy Holidays!
I absolutely love Steve Tyrell's Christmas album...it's one of the few I could play on repeat!!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog via Effortless Home Style blog directory, wanted to see what other blogs might be listed in the area! Come say hi if you get a chance!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm so excited to check them out and start downloading! :)
ReplyDeleteI worked at a Starbucks too and completely agree, the November 1st christmas music kick-off nearly ruined festive tunes entirely for me!
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you've found new songs to be inspired by! :)
