Happy Monday friends! Are you all decorated for Christmas? I'm sure the majority of you are much further along than we are! But I did do a little decorating this weekend and thought I'd show you our mantle and the direction we're headed.
For as long as I've been decorating on my own for Christmas, I've always used red as a main color. This year I'm itching to mix is up, so I thought we'd decorate with gold and white. The fun and challenging part of this is that we don't actually have any gold and white decor. :) And, I don't want to spend a lot of money (if any) on new decor. So, stay tuned to see how this works itself out. I have a feeling there will be a lot of diy happening!
This weekend, I started with our mantle. For the wall above the mantle, I created a simple gold "Merry and Bright" sign. Which isn't technically done -- but it's close! For on the mantle I had a vision of lots of white poinsettias. I bought a few mini poinsettias that I replanted into the terra cotta pots that I seem to be collecting (for some reason I have a LOT). I also bought a big white poinsettia that I cut up and put into a vase. I found a super sparkly gold paper and a gold mini chevron paper at Paper Source (love that store!) and wrapped them around the vases.
The result is understated, sparky and completely gorgeous.
I have a feeling that if I can pull it off, I'm going to really love our holiday decor this year.
And let's be honest -- I'm only including this photo because there's a chance this is my new favorite view in the house :).
Friends, what color scheme are using to decorate for the holidays? Are you all done decorating? Haven't started yet? I'd love to hear!

LOVE the white and gold - it looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat diy projects thus far! I love the color scheme and am excited to see the rest! We did our decorating last night and the colors are silver, turquoise and light blue.
ReplyDeleteHaven't started yet:/ We're waiting for Mitch to finish the flooring in the living room then we can get a tree:)
ReplyDeleteFor the past couple of years I've gone with a colorful theme, using Amy Butler papers as the basis for my decorating, and adding corresponding colored ornaments to the tree. By the end of last season the paper chain I'd made in 2008 was falling apart so I had to throw it away. This meant I also had to rethink my plans for this year. In going through my ornaments and decor it turned out that I had a number of red, gold, and silver decorations so that's what I went with this year. I bought a couple packages of gold ornaments and red berries from Michael's to round out the set and that's what I ended up with. I actually really like it.
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, I love what you've done with the poinsettias.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenn! Love the Christmas art and decor. Your gallery wall caught my eye in your project gallery. Wanted to say HI and I'm following along. Fellow Portland area blogger ;)
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful, Jenn!! Totally my kind of holiday decorating. I always love to use metallics for Christmas, I actually avoid red on purpose (don't hate me!). Last year I made paper chains for our tree using white and gold and silver and copper and gray and brown random scrapbook paper I had lying around. I always use a lot of the color green too, party because I try to buy or cut a lot of real greens. The view into the new kitchen is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, my mantle called. It wants you to come visit. :) Beautiful work friend!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that gold sign! I'm having holiday decor blues as I don't think we'll be able to decorate with all the contruction going on in our house, but I am excited to live through YOU and your pretty decorating!
ReplyDeleteI love the gold. The mantel looks really pretty. And you know I'm lovin' the view of the kitchen too! I just posted pics of my living room Christmas deco today too. I've got red, red and more red. With some silver thrown in. Doesn't really matter to me what color it is, I just love all the sparkles and twinkles. :o)
ReplyDeleteI really like the simplicity of you mantel. Very soothing. Great job!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I am not a big fan of the traditional dark green and reds, so I love how you pulled this together. Love your sign, love the paper wrapped vases, love the color scheme. Gorgeous. And I could sit and stare at that view from your living room into your kitchen all day too. So happy you have such a beautiful home to enjoy after all your hard work!
ReplyDeleteLove the paper-wrapped vases! The terra cotta pots add a nice rustic element too! Found your site through Ten June's Link Up! I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love how clean and simple this idea is. Looks great, love the white and golden theme!
