{inspired} craft rooms & offices

Friends, I'm stumped.

See, the back bedroom that we just completely refinished serves as my sewing/craft room and our office. Plus, Chris' dresser and clothes live in the (smaller) closet :). That's a whole lot of multi-functioning for one, pretty tiny, room. Since we put so much effort into making the bones of this room look sharp, I want to make sure the furnishings follow suite. Plus, it's a craft/sewing room. It needs to be inspirational, or I'll never sew ;).

I thought I'd start with a mood board. Similar to the one I made for the back entry. But, I can't come up with anything! What's a girl to do? That's right, hit the great interwebs for inspiration. I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to write this post, but just looking through craft room photos and offices photos has been immensely helpful and inspirational.

Want to see what I'm loving for offices and craft rooms?

This lovely office has been on my radar for a couple years. What I especially like is the *L* shaped table that gives lots of counter space with a minimal footprint, and the big armoire for storage.

This room is gorgeous. LOVE that lamp. What really caught my attention, though, is the creative fabric *storage*. All my fabric is hiding behind closet doors at the moment. Having is on display is not only beautiful, but incredibly helpful for remembering what you have to work with.

Here, I am loving both the lights (chandelier lights in an office are so pretty!) and the HUGE table.

I don't have room for an entire wall of storage, but I like the idea repurposing a console or buffet into a large counter area.

This room is amazingly close to what I have in mind. Like the first picture, it's a *L* shaped set up. The photo is a little blurry, but you can see a sewing machine at one end of the tables and a computer under the window. Love this.

This room I love solely for the the color palette. Okay, and all the great storage boxes :).

I'm thinking a lot about floating shelves, similar to this. I like how these shelves are customized and think a few of these a long one of the walls would be a great addition.

What are some of your office or craft room *must haves*? Do you have rooms in your house that do double or triple duty?? And, any ideas for creative fabric storage? There doesn't seem to be much on the internet about this.

  2. I love so many of those office pics!

For me, my dream office would:

    1. NOT also be a guest room.
    2. Be a little girlier than the rest of the house.
    3. Have a separate table for sewing, crafts, sketching, etc., aside from my "real work" desk.
    4. Have lots of pretty storage, because I'm not a big fan of seeing all of my stuff, even if it's beautiful. I want it hidden!

But in reality, I get to settle with:
    1. A little corner in the guest room/shared office for my desk, with not nearly enough surface area.
    2. A bunch of Elfa shelves which are a god-send.
    3. The company of my dogs and lovely husband, who brighten up any room.

    :-)

  3. Our library is also a craft storage, miscellaneous storage and Cooper's room. Which is why I haven't even started thinking about what I'm going to do with it.

  4. Hmm...I'm super grateful to have my own sewing studio. If I were being picky, I'd wish it were a bit bigger for the sake of having an even larger fabric cutting station, and would wish for more empty walls to create storage on. But I'm going to just remain thankful for the space I DO have for now. :)

  6. I'm currently trying to help my mom turn my old bedroom into a "her office/dads drum storage/work out" room. Talk about a room having lots of different purposes!

But for your room, I love Premier Prints fabrics for inspiration! They have such fun, bold designs. You could pick out a great fabric for your curtains for go from there! And I know some people hate IKEA, but I'm a huge fan of their prices and great office furniture. You could get a large simple desk, or even put two together for your large work table. And I love their inspiration rooms online! (And IKEA has pretty affordable clothing storage options that would fit in well with office furniture.)

I'm sure whatever you come up with will be just beautiful! I love your taste and can't wait to see what you do in there!

  7. I was just adding this type of project to my to do list. My must haves are organization, organization, and organization!! Although I do not have a room but rather a spare closet that I use to house all my stuff. I agree that the color pallette in the Martha Stewart room is amazing!! Can't wait to see how you work your magic :)

  9. I'm curious to see what you do because I can't seem to make a space work for me that is a craft/sewing/office space. It seems like some things need to be done outside, some in the garage, some on the kitchen table, and some at a desk. And when an overnight guest comes, everything has to disappear into a closet that's already full of supplies. I need a whole warehouse!

  10. I love the L shaped desk against the wall in the first photo. Like you said, it really makes the best use of the space.

  11. I just finished & blogged about my little corner I made into my workspace. So happy to have access to all my stuff without hiding in boxes in the closet. What a fun process you are in! Enjoy every minute of getting it just the way you'll love. I'm from BYW class, btw. :)
