{inspired} by pink ....?

Here's something I never thought I'd say: I have pink on the brain. For those that know me, I'm not a girly-girl. I'm like a good frill, but it has to be subtle and balanced with something completely unfrilly. I wear pink occasionally, but usually with black, and it's no where in my house. So, when Sarah, from Pewter and Sage, announced her latest Mood Board Monday Challenge I decided to make it a true challenge.

I chose this artwork to base a room around, and decided that I want to pull in the pink and make the room a little feminine, but with an edge. I went this route for two reasons: as I mentioned above, pink it very out of my comfort zone and this artwork is also a little out of my comfort zone. Such bold colors! So modern! What can I say. I love a good challenge :).

But now I'm a little stuck. This is hard friends! So, I'm looking for inspirations of rooms that are decidedly feminine, but not girly-girl sugary-sweet Barbie rooms.

I LOVE all these rooms. What all these rooms have in common is that pink is used an accent. A strong accent in some cases, but it's a wall color, or a chair color, or a pillow color. It's not all three. I actually think this is a good rule of thumb for all strong accent colors!

What do you guys think of pink? Do you decorate with it? And, make sure to check back Monday to see how my room turned out. If you'd like to design your own room, check out Sarah's challenge here.

  2. LOVE the little girls room and the pink cupboard! I kinda love pink, but like you said, it's best as an accent so that it's not overkill (especially when a man is in the household!).

  3. I love pink! Especially that dining room, but I'd be afraid to drop lots of money on something so decidedly pink, because I think it might get old quickly. Beautiful rooms!

  5. I've never been a pink girl myself (not even when I was a toddler!) but I really like the second inspiration picture (room with the two twin beds) because the pink is used as a muted accent, but still keeps it feminine and "soft."

Push those boundaries! Can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

  6. I have three girls so ofcourse there is a generous supply of pink in our home. I don't know if I could ever commit to a pink piece of furniture or a rug but I love it as accent pillows, in art, fresh flowers.... good luck!

  7. I've got two young girls and I remember clearly the sensation of being literally surrounded by fizzy intense pink since I brought the eldest home from hospital. As a subtle Girly girl, of a very masculine family base, this new femininity was both strange and exciting. Could I really adopt frou frou pink into my life? Well... Yes... Pink and Navy, Pink and Cream, Pink and Cream, Pink and Peach. I've tried it all. From clothing to interiors to makeup. I even wore pink with turquoise the other day. It didn't work for me, but I did do it. I think the key to surviving it is to always do the unexpected with it or try and man it up a bit. It demands attention, similarly to red, but has a certain humour and cheekiness to it. Red is serious and pink is its cheeky sibling. Lighter tones often seem a little troublesome as they teeter into ballet buff colours don't they? Greys, pewters and navy seem to aid mature it. Black, I feel, can push pink into sexy burlesque territory. I like pink with teal and green. Just as an accent. And the raspberry colours. I think pink is one of my favourites now. It also suits me, apparently. So I encourage your dabbling. There is more to pink then glamour!

  9. I've been a tom-boy all my life and have never been into pink even as a young child. I do have coral accents in my family room.. that's as girly as I get. :)

Oh, but I love that artwork, btw!

  10. I am so right there with you - I'm not a girly girl by any means - but I'm not sure if you remember the Bubblegum Betty print that I posted a while ago. I've been smitten with Bubblegum Betty for so long that I think I might use her in Sheila's room someday. I'm definitely not a bubble gum pink girl but I could do some fuschia or some other bolder accent in our home...maybe. Anyway, I love your inspirations as well - especially Nicole's board with the Chesterfield.
